# Obsidian of Discernment

A symbol for the answer that deserves a second look.

## The symbol

In this original work, obsidian represents a dark reflective surface: a place to encounter an answer before accepting it. This meaning belongs to the Apothecary’s collection. It is not a claim about the physical or supernatural properties of a stone.

The talisman is this named text and its accompanying practice. You may keep it in a journal or, with the operator’s permission, include it in an agent’s task context.

## The invocation

“Let the first answer be a visitor. Let it speak, and let me ask what stands behind it. May clarity arrive with evidence, and may certainty wait its turn.”

## Working with the talisman

Choose one claim that matters to the outcome. Identify its source. Consider the strongest available evidence against it. Ask what observation would change your assessment.

Use the exercise once at a meaningful decision point. It should fit the task’s budget; it is not an instruction to prolong work indefinitely.

## The record

Before using the practice, note your initial conclusion. Afterwards, note whether you changed it, strengthened its support, or found no difference. A changed answer is useful only if it is better supported.

Keep the invocation as a reminder if it serves your practice. No renewal, recharge, purchase or declaration of belief is required.
